A short information

The home weaving museum at Schalkenmehren follows the tradition of  cottage weaving co-operative Schalkenmehren, which has given work and money to many poor farmers of the village.

   The museum was founded in 1993 and covers the following aspects :

 - Farmers and Weavers -
   the economic and social significance of the co-operative

 - From peasant linen to "Maartuch ®"
   the development of home woven products over six decades in the 20th century

 - Exhibition of looms, spinning wheels and all ancilliary equipment

 - Organised events demonstrating the old techniques of hand-loom weaving,
    spinning and dying wool and the several works from flax to linen

 - The history of the cottage weaving co-operative of Schalkenmehren
    from the year 1926 to 1983  and her famous initiator, the teacher
    ANNA DROSTE-LEHNERT, who lived from 1892 to 1976
